Post subject: Chinese display and input on OZ/GPE/OPIE |
|
Hi all,
Sorry, but Chinese is not my main language, but I do need to read and input Chinese on my C1000 that is using English ROM.
Can anyone give me some advice on how Chinese display and input on OZ/GPE/OPIE can be supported?
I currently have Cacko 1.23 full installed and is able to have Chinese display and input but would like to do so on OZ/GPE/OPIE.
Thanks for any advice and help!
PS: I'm trying out OZ/GPE/OPIE and pdaXrom currently. I'm a forum user at www.oesf.org/forums and tried but failed to get much help for Chinese support on C1000. |

OZ/GPE/OPIE should be similar with original SHARP ROM. I don't have time to try that ROM, but would glad to provide help in porting murphytalk-pinyin input to that system. _________________ Symbol CF WIFI+Corsair 2GB SD

oz/opie is like sharp rom/cacko and has no chinese support
oz/gpe is like pdaxrom and can support chinese by installling scim and fonts |

Actually, I currently reverted back to Cacko 1.23 full because I got chinese fonts installed and it works for display. I also got murphytalk installed and I have pinyin input working as well.
chyang, would be grateful if murphytalk can be ported to OZ/OPIE ... or does it work already?
Can the qpf fonts that I currently use for Cacko be used in OZ/OPIE?
ccpaging and meanie, I tried pdaXrom and displaying chinese was somewhat easier than Cacko. I just needed to copy over a ttf chinese font to the right directory and rox file browser displayed chinese filenames immediately. I didn't continue to dabble enough to find out how to enable the other apps or the system itself to display chinese text correctly.
For SCIM, I managed to get the scim-setup running and a taskbar applet appeared when I run scim -d ... but beyond that, I didn't get any IME input panel or anything.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I've reverted back to Cacko on my Akita for now as I need to use it for my 'work' while I have oz/gpe on my collie installed so I'll be able to test out any ipks for oz/gpe on my collie. If there is a specific installation tutorial for oz/opie, I'll reflash my collie to sandbox it before testing on Akita.
If not for Chinese display and input support, I would use oz/opie/gpe or pdaXrom as oz and pdaXrom supports my wifi cf card. For now, I can live without wifi, but not without Chinese display and input.
Thanks for all your suggestions and input. Please keep them coming. |

cacko is easy to support chinese display also. The only thing is font copy, cacko use qpf, pdaxrom support ttf and pcf.
Because x11 and qt now is natived support utf8, chinese should be easy, you may try to add chinese font to opie.
My netgear wg111v2 has used in Ubuntu of my PC, it is possible working on my Z. _________________ SL-C1000, 1G CF, 1G SD

==> good news

==> It should be ok, I guess. Because opie use qtopia, and qt support uft since begin. Try to find that directory, copy qpg in, link orginal font file to new chinese qpf. Notice, backup you rom before test.

==> Cacko is same also. Qt can not change system font in GUI, the system font file name is in hard code, but we can change font file and link to our chinese font file.

==> I do not sugguest you use SCIM. SCIM is mainly develop for PC, and use more modern chinese input tech. But it used to much memory and CPU, and too heavily as PDA.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

ccpaging, thanks for your replies.
Yes, I do have Chinese display and input for Cacko 1.23 running very well. I also got wifi support working, so I will continue to use it for now, though I really hope to have OZ running as it is just a tad faster!
I'll try oz/opie with Chinese on my Collie, which I use for sandboxing ... |
